Virtual Races Explained

  • What is a virtual race?
    • A virtual race can be run (or walked!) anytime and anywhere, even indoors on a treadmill. So no matter what your schedule is or where you are, you can be part of this event and a part of our community.
  • How does a virtual race work?
    • Once you register for any of the events, simply complete that distance anytime and anywhere you desire (treadmills are okay too! and after you finish upload your finish time to via the results page. We will mail you shirt (or quarter zip for half/full/challenge runners), finisher’s medal, bib, and extra gift after you upload your results or at the end of the race period (Veteran's Day, November 11th), whichever comes first!
  • Who can participate in this event?
    • Everyone! We encourage everyone of all abilities to join us and to challenge yourself! What makes a virtual race so great is that there are no course time limits so you can really tackle this challenge at your own speed!
  • Can I walk or do I have to run and do I have to do the distance all at once?
    • Like almost all races, you can run or walk. But unique to virtual races is that there is no course time limit due to road closures and permits. Thus while many will take care of the distance in one effort, this is not a requirement and we care more than you get the distance done on your own terms. Think of this more event as motivation to accomplish a goal, the terms by which you accomplish that goal however are up to you!
    • As it relates to submitting your results, if you broke your effort into multiple segments through one day or over multiple days, just sum up your total time and submit the cumulative time.
  • How can I track my distance and time my run/walk?
    • We trust our participants and thus we do not tell you how to track your distance and time and you can choose the method that's best for you. In terms of accuracy, running on tracks is towards the top and closely following that are GPS watches. There are also numerous apps you can download for free and it's always helpful to map out a route ahead of time so you know exactly how far you're going, we've made a list of some free apps and map making websites below.
  • How do I submit my results after I run or walk?
    • There are two ways to submit your results;
      • While logged into runsignup, go to OldGloryMarathon.com, click the results tab, and then click "submit virtual results". Enter your time and submit!
      • Log into RunSignup and click the icon in the top right of the page, then click "profile". You'll see events you're registered for, beside Old Glory Marathon there will be a link during the race period that says, "Submit virtual results", click that and submit your time!
  • Do I have to upload my results to get my shirt and medal?
    • We will begin mailing out your items in the beginning of October and then typically within in weekly batches after that once you submit your results. If you have not submitted results by the end of the race period (November 11th), we will still mail out your items. We do encourage you however to submit your results!
  • What is the race period window?
    • This event will take place between September 19th 2020 (Air Force Birthday) - November 11th, 2020 (Veterans Day). This is the period when the results page is open to submit your results and the period in which we begin to send out items to those who have submitted their results.
  • What if I can't complete my run during the race period?
    • We firmly believe that life happens and that's okay! We will still mail you your items at the end of the race period and still encourage you to get the run done when you can, we will make sure you still get in the results!
  • How do I create an account?
    • When you go to register for the event you will automatically create a RunSignup account! This is extremely handy because RunSignup has thousands of races on its platform which makes managing your registrations very easy!
